4 tips about roof underlayment

The variations among roofing underlays are many, and it can be difficult to know how to mix and match different materials and products with each other. To assist you, we have a guide for roofing underlays, but also four tips on how to achieve a successful result.

  • Keep track of whether your roof covering requires fire protection capability of the substrate. In that case, use for example YAP, YEP, or preferably YAM 2000.

  • When using hot-dip galvanized roofing felt nails, it is important to have the correct dimension, at least 20x2.8 or 25x2.5. For staples, use Rapid 140/10 or larger.
  • Secure roof battens properly and centrally at joints and connections, and avoid getting too close to the outer edge or cross joint. Use screws for tough requirements.

  • Prefabricated, self-adhesive edges vary in adhesive ability, especially at lower temperatures. In weather colder than +5°, a heat gun may be needed.
