Why is an air gap built under the outer roof?
The simple answer is that you want to avoid devastating moisture damage in the roof. During the construction period, it is especially easy to inadvertently trap moisture when the roof is completed. Even when the house is finished and in use, you want some ventilation in the roof to prevent any moisture that enters from becoming trapped.
The solution is to build an air gap under the outer roof to create airflow and expel moisture. There are many different ways to solve this - some are better and more efficient than others.
We like it when it's simple, saves time, and at the same time is really good from a construction technology perspective. The solution is based on the products AirGap Eaves wind deflector and AirGap Extend air gap board.
The only thing you need to ensure a truly secure air gap is:
-
AirGap Eaves wind deflector
-
AirGap Extendair gap board
-
T-Flex sealing tape (indoor)
-
T-Flex Outdoor sealing tape (exterior)
